Semantic HTML

What is it?

Semantic HTML means using HTML elements that clearly describe their meaning and purpose in the document structure. Instead of generic div and span elements everywhere, semantic tags like header, nav, main, article, section, aside, and footer communicate the role of content to browsers, search engines, and assistive technologies like screen readers.

Practical example

Instead of structuring a blog post with nested divs, use semantic elements: wrap the entire post in an article tag, use header for the title and publication date, the main content goes directly in the article, use aside for related links or author bio, and footer for tags and sharing buttons. This improves SEO and makes your site accessible to screen reader users.
